Tied up

This is the first of a series of works that concentrate on our relationship with fabric. I have been trying to find ways to give the fabric some agency and allow it to take on qualities of intention.

New Studio

I apologize for the gap in posts, things got a bit hectic with the summer solo show, and studio move. BUT... I'm back to work, and here is a shot of the new digs at Clayworks! It's a long narrow space, with Ben Freund's studio nestled in the back, which is actually working out perfectly with my building process. I can now have specified areas for construction, hollowing, and surfacing! more to come soon!

Colors

I am just about finished with the surface of this piece. I chose a different approach to the surface, layering muted colors over more vibrant to add depth. I will post better photos when I get them.

Wall work

I've been thinking lately about how to better use space when displaying my work so I've decided to make some wall mountable pieces. This particular piece has posed some challenges in that I can't spin it, and I find my self falling over trying to look at  it and my reference photos from very awkward angles!

Just put this guy back together. Just needs some shoelaces and a hand and he will be ready to go in the Bailey at Baltimore Clayworks. First time firing a propane kiln.

Rag and bones

This is one of a few new pieces I've been working on in my new studio at Baltimore Clayworks. My plan for this work is to relate these compositions of cloth and wood to human/animal forms in different ways. I am also experimenting with some new surface content with these that reference uniforms and flags.

I'm still tweaking the positioning of the Snellen chart but I wanted to post progress of this piece. I'm more inclined to blur the skew of the projection to make the text less identifiable, but the the overall cast is most important.

Upgrade

This could not have come at a better time! It's been a rough past few weeks, but there's nothing like walking Into the studio to see my brand new BW-30M has arrived! #readyrock

Burn it

It feels good to be finished with this piece and onto some new work and new ideas. Il post more when I pull this guy out of the kiln.

So after I cut a replacement shadow (red) this piece should be complete. Just gotta get it photographed.
- and if he doesn't already look like a super hero/villain ( you decide)- he has a detachable magnetic arm. That's right! Shoot the fair one.

Lets get weird!

So my projector is teetering precariously on the edge of my table. But I think for anything to be successful there must be a healthy portion of risk potion. Hopefully this guy will have an arm tomorrow if my neodymium mags grip!

Progress

Do these legs look short to you? I think it's an illusion caused by the size of Phil's head on Josh's body.

No cracks!

There were some tricky tensions in this piece along with and experimental internal arch, but the fire was a success and the cone supports were snug when I removed them.
